Hayes Sogoloff, manager of Cedar Spring Farm was introduced to Morgan Horses while he was a student at the University of Vermont. After graduating from the Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1970, Hayes began his optometry practice in Shelburne, Vermont as well as establishing a fledgling Morgan Horse breeding farm. Cedar Spring Farm operated as a private farm until 1976, when the farm began professional services with the construction of a training and show barn on property in Essex Junction, Vermont. Hayes assumed the role of manager of the quickly growing facility. In addition to his duties as farm manager, Hayes is past president of the Vermont Optometric Association, is a board member of the Vermont Laser Eye Clinic, past president of the Champlain Valley Kennel Clinic, member of the Vermont Morgan Horse Association, and it's 2001 Man of the Year, United Professional Horseman's Association, American Morgan Horse Association, and American Morgan Horse Institute, Hayes has also served as long time manager of the Vermont Spring Classic Morgan Horse Show, which has won numerous awards from the industry.
Bonnie Sogoloff has followed a life long interest in Morgan Horses. She started operating her own horse boarding business at the age of 15 on the family farm. During high school, she apprenticed under area horsewoman Billie Goeltz. In college, as a student employee of the UVM Morgan Horse Farm, became one of the famous: Baker Boys - the only female member. The Baker Boys were a group of young horsemen who learned their craft from the legendary Bob Baker of Middlebury, Vermont. Today they are well known professionals who have become legends themselves.
In 1976, Bonnie, with husband Hayes, began Cedar Srping Farm as a professional facility, then located in Essex Junction, Vermont. The farm grew to a 49 stall facility that produced an array of champion horses and riders. Bonnie is most noted for having developed the stallion Long View Sundance, a three time World Champion, who is consided the standard by which the Morgan English Pleasure Horse is judged. Bonnie has been active in all facets of the Morgan breed as an owner, trainer, breeder and exhibitor. She is a member of the Vermont Morgan Horse Association, is a past chapter chairman and board member of the United Professional Horsemen's Association, member and commitee member of the United States Equestrian Federation, including the Saddle Seat Committee, member of the American Morgan Horse Association, and past chairman of the AMHA Professional Committee. Bonnie is a registered Judge in the Morgan and Saddle Seat Equitation divisions, and has judged for over 25 years in all major Morgan Horse shows in the US, Canada, and England. She is a noted clinician and author of numerous articles on training and riding. Also, Bonnie is the recipient of many awards including UPHA and VMHA Horseman and Horseperson of the Year, several promotional awards and the prestigious Golden Reins award from the American Morgan Horse Association. Bonnie is a graduate of the University of Vermont.
Keely Sogoloff, eldest daughter of Bonnie and Hayes, has a lifetime of total emersion in horse experience. Growing up in a professional training barn gave Keely an edge in the show ring and in her riding, as she worked with many different horses, in various stages of training. Her junior exhibtor years were filled with success, and she rode both Morgans and American Saddlebreds. Keely is noted as being one of the premiere Morgan Saddle Seat Equitation riders the breed has produced. Her career was punctuated by the fact that she always trained her own equitation horse herself. Keely was a popular catch rider for other trainers, as well. Keely entered the professional ranks at the age of 18, and for 20 years has steadily provided the Morgan ranks with world champions. Keely is a member of the United Professional Horsemen's Association, Vermont and American Morgan Horse Association, and the United States Equestrian Federation. She is an experience clinician and highly regarded instructor. Keely is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a BS degree in Zoology.
Wendy Sogoloff, younger daughter of Bonnie and Hayes Sogoloff, trained her first world champion at the age of 11. In 1984 she rode and drove Cedar's Firelight, a homebred, to two national titles in her age group. From the early beginning, Wendy has not looked back. She decided on a horse training career at the age of 12, and has spent a lifetime perfecting her craft. Sought after as a catch rider for other trainers, Wendy always could pilot a strange horse with skill and understanding. Her world champion junior exhibitor years were filled with awards and achievements, as well as the sought after sales of her champion horses. Wendy also spent two years as the assistant for Nelson Green Stables in Nicholasville, KY, an unparalleled American Saddlebred show barn. A professional trainer for 18 years, Wendy has an affinity for young horses with starting young colts a specialty. She is a member of the United Professional Horseman's Association, Vermont and American Morgan Horse Associations, and the United States Equestrian Federation. She is an experienced clinician and hightly regarded instructor. Wendy is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a BS degree in Animal Science.
